Unit 8 Post

The two exercises that I feel are most beneficial are visualization and meditation because I tend to use both of the most. I use visualization with meditation in order to calm my mind and relax and sometimes I do it right before bed, which helps me to fall asleep easier and faster. I also use visualization for motivation because I know when I am sweating and dying on the elliptical I am thinking in my mind about what I want to look like and how I am going to feel etc. I picture myself healthy, happy, and strong and it helps me sometimes get through a workout that I didn't want to do. I try and picture the end result sometimes as a motivator towards a goal.

  1. Hi Kristin,
I like using visualization as well. When I get overwhelmed at work or when clients get me upset, I sit back in my chair and I visualize myself in another place. I always picture myself on a beach in Hawaii with a cocktail in my hand and the ocean breeze on my face. After a few minutes of my "vacation" time, I come back calm, less upset, and ready to get back to work. These little exercises are so great because they help lower our blood pressure and help reduce our risk of contracting diseases.

    Great Practices!

  2. Kristin,
I think it is so important to use visualization in exercise so we can stay focused and not talk yourself out of getting off the elliptical. Also picturing a stringer healthy you always is a motivator! I try to visualize a healthy me too, it is just sometime cluttered with mental chatter, but I continue to work on that!!!

  3. Hi Kristin,
I do that too!!! I believe that visualization is very important to meditation. It is a very useful tool to me as well. I asked this question to someone else previously, but when we are supposed to focus on our breath, do you use visualization? I imagine my breath as a white light going through my body, I also imagine my body as a perfectly working model. I was told by someone who did biofeedback on my body that you should imagine your organs working perfectly as you meditate. Hopefully this will work and help my body to stay healthy.
